Privacy Policy

1. Who we are
OZNUMBER ("OZNUMBER", "we", "us", "our") is a registered Australian business name (ABN 33 646 580 751) operating the website oznumber.com, through which we assist individuals and businesses to port/transfer premium Australian mobile numbers into their name.
This policy explains how we handle personal information in accordance with the Privacy Act 1988 (Cth) and the Australian Privacy Principles (APPs). Where applicable, OZNUMBER's handling of telecommunications-related information is also governed by Part 13 of the Telecommunications Act 1997 (Cth) (see section 8 below).
Some small businesses (annual turnover of AUD 3 million or less) may otherwise be exempt from parts of the Privacy Act. Regardless of whether that exemption applies to us, OZNUMBER has elected to comply with the APPs in full as a matter of best practice.
2. Who our services are for
OZNUMBER's services are available only to individuals and businesses located within Australia. We do not offer, market, or sell our services to consumers outside Australia.
3. Information we collect
We collect only the information reasonably necessary to arrange the port/transfer of a phone number into your name and complete the process with your chosen carrier. This typically includes:
- Full name, email address and contact phone number;
- Postal or billing address (when required for tax invoicing);
- Australian Business Number (ABN) or Australian Company Number (ACN), where you purchase in a business name;
- Order details (the number you wish to purchase, price, correspondence);
- Information you voluntarily provide when contacting us by email, WhatsApp or the website contact form;
- Technical information automatically collected when you use our website, such as IP address, device and browser type, and pages viewed.
We do not collect or store payment card details. All payments are processed by PayPal (and, when available, Stripe), whose privacy policies apply to that processing.
4. Identity verification documents
To complete a mobile number port, Australian carriers require identity verification (for example, a driver's licence, passport, or Medicare card). This information is used solely to verify your identity and complete your port request, and is deleted from our systems once the port has been finalised, unless we are required by law to retain it for longer.
We only collect identity documents to the extent required by carriers or by law. Where practicable, you may deal with us anonymously or under a pseudonym; however, because carriers mandate identity verification to complete a port, we will generally be unable to provide our core service without it.
5. How we use your information
- To process your order and issue a tax invoice;
- To coordinate the mobile number port with the losing and gaining carriers;
- To communicate with you about your order, availability and support enquiries;
- To meet our legal, tax and record-keeping obligations;
- To detect and prevent fraud or misuse of our service.
We do not use your personal information for marketing to third parties, and we do not sell your personal information.
6. Direct marketing
We will only send you direct marketing (such as updates on number availability or promotions) if you have opted in to receive it. Every marketing communication includes a clear way to opt out, and you may also unsubscribe at any time by emailing info@oznumber.com. We comply with the Spam Act 2003 (Cth) in relation to commercial electronic messages.
7. Disclosure to third parties
We disclose personal information only to the extent necessary to deliver the service you have purchased. This may include:
- Australian mobile carriers and mobile virtual network operators (Telstra, Optus, TPG/Vodafone and their resellers) for porting purposes;
- Payment processors (PayPal and Stripe);
- Cloud infrastructure and email delivery providers that host our website and communications;
- Professional advisers (accountants, lawyers) and regulators, where required;
- Law enforcement or government agencies where required or authorised by Australian law.
8. Telecommunications-specific obligations
As part of facilitating a mobile number port, your name, service address and number details may be required to be provided to the Integrated Public Number Database (IPND), a database maintained under Commonwealth legislation and used for purposes including the Triple Zero emergency call service, law enforcement, and public number directories. We only disclose information to the IPND to the extent required to complete your port and as mandated by law.
Separately, information about your telecommunications service is protected under Part 13 of the Telecommunications Act 1997 (Cth), which restricts the use and disclosure of such information except in specified circumstances (for example, with your consent, for law enforcement purposes, or as required to provide the service).
9. Overseas disclosure
Some of our service providers (for example, cloud hosting and email delivery) may store data on servers located outside Australia, including in the United States and the European Union. We take reasonable steps to ensure any overseas recipient handles your information in a manner consistent with the APPs.
10. Data security & retention
We store your data on reputable cloud infrastructure protected by access controls, encryption in transit (HTTPS) and encryption at rest. We retain order and invoice records for at least five (5) years as required by Australian taxation law. Other records, such as support correspondence and marketing consent records, are retained only for as long as reasonably necessary for the purpose they were collected, after which they are securely deleted or de-identified. You may request deletion of any information not required by law to be retained.
11. Data breach notification
Where OZNUMBER experiences an "eligible data breach" as defined under Part IIIC of the Privacy Act 1988 (Cth), we will notify the Office of the Australian Information Commissioner (OAIC) and affected individuals as soon as practicable, in accordance with our data breach response procedures, and take reasonable steps to reduce any resulting harm.
12. Cookies
Our website uses a small number of first-party cookies that are strictly necessary to keep you signed in and to remember your wishlist. We do not use third-party advertising cookies.
13. Children's privacy
Our services are not intended for, or directed at, individuals under the age of 18. We do not knowingly collect personal information from minors. If you believe a minor has provided us with personal information, please contact us so we can delete it.
14. Accessing and correcting your information
You have the right to request access to, or correction of, the personal information we hold about you. Email info@oznumber.com and we will respond as soon as practicable, and generally within 30 days.
15. Changes to this policy
We may update this policy from time to time. Material changes will be posted on this page with a new "Last updated" date.
